'Y'all Come!' In the neighborly world of Country Music, it's an invite we can't resist! The title cut on this CD is by steel guitar legend, Pete Drake. It is the perfect way to kick off this Collection of Country Superstars. In the early 1960's, Pete invented the 'voice tube' we hear ' Rock'n'roller, Peter Frampton, utilized it on the guitar in the 1970s. Comedic songster, Johnny Bond, is up to his usual antics on 'I'm Gonna Raise Cain While I'm Able.' Best known for songs that portray the wacky dilemmas spawned by too much drinking, Bond was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. Country starlet, Jan Howard, toured with Johnny Cash, Bill Anderson and Tammy Wynette. Jan joined the Grand Old Opry in 1972. She has performed on the Opry ever since. Listen to Jan sing 'I Wish I Could Fall In Love Again'... it is easy to see how she became one of the hottest female recording artists of the 1960s and 70s. Jimmy Skinner was known as the Kentucky Colonel. Skinner was loved for his traditionalist approach to country music. Skinner's empathetic 'The Story of Bonnie & Clyde' is a fine example of the style that kept his songs in the charts from 1949 through 1960. George Jones is the epitome of country music singers. Jones' 'Nothing Can Stop My Love' delivers everything we love about the Possum's impossibly perfect country vocals. Red Sovine is best know as the King Of The Narrations. Sovine's top-notch singing vocals are as good as it gets on 'Loser Made Good.' Archie Campbell is one of the best country comedian/singers of all time. He shows us his serious side on the beautiful song, 'Settin' My Tears To Music.'The Stonemans helped to define the genre known as country music. The roots of this family group can be traced back to Pop Stoneman, a 2008 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee. The Stonemans perform a world-class, lightning-fast version of the bluegrass classic, 'Orange Blossom Breakdown.' Buck Owens charted 89 songs, 21 of which were #1-hits. Buck starred on Hee Haw for 16 years, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996. Owens' 'Down In The Corner Of Love' makes it easy to understand why. Minnie Pearl is one of the most popular singer/comedians of all time. Minnie's lovable, country bumpkin character is based on an actual mountain lady. 'Try To Live Some' highlights Minnie's one-of-a-kind vocals.
